HAPPY CELLS PAINTINGS
The first Happy Cell painting arrived apparently "out of the blue" in May 2006.

Its title was clearly "My Happy Cells" and it took Gill completely by surprise.
Until then almost every piece she had created was on a square format. All the print series's; Seasons, the White series and the Chinese Elements series, 2000 (except Earth) are square or rectangular. However, Gill had been "visualising" healthy cells in her daily meditations since 1998, as part of her positive approach to her HIV+ diagnosis in 1989.
My Happy Cells II
Other Happy Cells paintings followed, and at her solo show at St Georges Hospital London in Sept 2006 , a doctor pointed out aspects of cells that Gill didn't consciously know she was painting
"That's the mitochondria" he said "but I've never seen a gold one before!"
Mitochondria are the power centres of cells, and now feature prominently in all Gill's cell paintings.
Gill now consciously paints healthy cells in various colours and sizes. In April 2009 Gill exhibited her recent collection of large cell paintings in a solo show at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital London which was extremely well received.
MEDITATION FOR HEALTH CLASSES
From November 2008 Gill has been facilitating Meditation Classes at the Sunflower Centre, Tressillian Road, Brockley SE4. The sessions last about 50mins , starting with some gentle stretches followed by a 20 - 25 minute guided visualisation. Gill gently guides participants to use their breath to relax the body & mind, release tension and connect with the beauty of nature. This promotes a deep sense of well being in the body which, Gill believes, can facilitate the creation of new healthy happy cells, thus giving the immune system a boost.
Classes run in blocks of 3 and participants can book in blocks of 3 or 6.
Each block of 3 costs £24 payable in advance
The classes are held on Wednesday mornings at 10am
Please bring a cushion to sit on and/or a blanket to keep yourself warm & comfortable..
To check dates, book a place or for more information please contact Gill at gill@gillhickman.com

"CREATING HAPPY CELLS" - VISUALISATION CD AVAILABLE
After several participants in Gill's visualisation classes continually asked if a CD was available, Gill with the help of her teenage son, produced a 24 minute CD which can be used at home. Several people are now using it regularly and say that they find it very beneficial. It can be used before sleeping or as a meditation tool in the morning. CDs cost £10 including P&P.
To order a CD please send your address and a £10 cheque payable to Gill Hickman T/A Ed & Art to 45 Sprules Road, London SE4 2NL
"GILL'S BOOK" - Here is one exerpt. More to follow soon.
.".....It was at Positively Women that I came across the power of visualisation for the first time. Nick Banforth the author of “AIDS and the healer within “ led a session for us at Sebastian street, it was so cosy there, I was snuggled on the sofa with a lovely Swedish woman who was an heroin ex-user. He led us through some of his visualisations, so powerful, he invited us to draw energy up from the earth, and down from the universe, he described the colours of our chakras, filled our hearts with green and pink, it was so special, I think I asked him a question, I can’t remember now, but he said could see a pink glow around me and this woman, I liked that idea a lot. I wonder where she is now and how she is.
Thanks Nick you introduced me to the power of visualisation ..........". |
